It is special, it is recommended to read the letter that begins in image 57, written to the lawyer Miranda de Ron, in which details of life on board a ship in 1573 are offered.

2.2- Cartography

Universal chart that contains everything that has been discovered in the world so far ago. It was made by Diego Ribero, a cosmographer of his majesty, in the year 1529, in [n] Seville.

.

Diego Ribero, royal cosmographer, drew up the world's first scientific world map in 1527. It contains the discoveries of Esteban Gómez's Magellan expedition on his trip to the North American coast after his desertion in the Strait of Magellan, by the Portuguese in Africa and Asia, and of all the discoverers in Central America and the American Pacific coast.

Only two copies remain. This is a scanned version of the copy that the Emperor gave to the Pope in 1529.

The largest digital file I have found is in the Australian National Library, here .

Kunstmann IV World Map, attributed to Jorge and Pedro Reinel, from the year 1519. Probably commissioned by Magellan before the expedition set sail.

.

KuntsmannIV.jpeg

Description of the National Geographic Institute of Spain ( IGN) : Facsimile reproduction of an anonymous and undated universal letter attributed to the Portuguese cartographers Jorge Reinel and his father Pedro Reinel ca.1519, when both had passed into the service of Spain in the Casa de Contratación . The original letter, known as Kunstmann IV, was lost in a bombing during World War II in 1945 and its contents are only preserved thanks to the hand-painted copy by the German artist Otto Progel ca.1843 that is kept in the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. It shows a summary of the status of the geographical discoveries to date just before Magellan and Elcano's trip, and, according to some opinions, it could be the map mentioned by the Portuguese ambassador to Spain, Sebastián Alvares, in his letter to Manuel I of Portugal. and that, according to him, served as a model for all the nautical charts made by Diego Ribero for the expedition.
